Brief Introduction of the 1st China Harbin Fair

Approved by the State Council and organized by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, the 1st China Harbin Fair was held in Harbin from June 15th to 21st, 1990. More than 900 foreign businessmen from USSR, Bulgaria, G.D.R., Czech and Slovakia, Poland, Romania, Yugoslavia, DPRK etc. attended the opening ceremony; Vice-Minister of Foreign Economic & Liaison Ministry of USSR also took a trading delegation to attend the opening ceremony. Meanwhile, some Chinese Central Government officials participated in the fair, including Mr. Li Lian, Secretary General of Central Advisory Commission; Mr.Hu Ping, Minister of Ministry of Commerce; Mr. Lv Xuejian, Vice Minister of Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation; Mr. He Jihai, Vice Minister of Ministry of Commerce; Mr. Xie Yong, Member of the Standing Committee of Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, etc. There were over 3500 domestic customers attended the fair, which come from each province, municipality directly under the Central Government, city under direct planning by the State, State relevant departments as well as the import & export corporations. This trade fair was the first biggest one ever held in Harbin since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

During the fair, there were over 50 foreign trading delegations and 2500 businessmen from USSR and east European countries as well as 6 domestic general trading delegations including 69 companies and enterprises having business talks. The total volume of contracts signed in this fair reached to 1.8 billion Swiss Francs, each half for import and export, and the total volume of agreements amounted to 2 billion Swiss Francs.

Through holding this session fair, Harbin becomes known by more and more People. Since the 1st Harbin Trade Fair, the emphasis has been put on inviting business and exhibitions from domestic business and foreign countries. The economic and trade cooperation and technological exchange have been carried out in wide spheres, deep level and diversified forms. Harbin's advantages on recourses, status of economic development and climate for investment have been publicized in an overall manner. Harbin's influence over China and even the world has been promoted.

Delegation of Machinery

China Import & Export Corporation has signed 3 contracts and 20 agreements altogether, the total import and export value was up to 140 million Swiss Francs. Among 3 contracts, there were 2 contracts signed with 2 companies of USSR, another one was signed with a state-run company of G.D.R. Among the 20 agreements, the biggest one was the barter trade agreement signed with Moscow Tractor Export Corporation of USSR, which total import and export value reached to 52 million Swiss Francs.

Delegation of Commerce

1 contract and 4 agreements have been signed. The contract was signed with the Foreign Trade Company of People's Republic of Mongolia; Among the agreements, there was a barter trade agreement signed with Sundry Goods Co. of Commerce Ministry of USSR, which import-export volume reached to 12 million Swiss Francs, also there was barter trade agreement of total import and export valued at 8.7 million Swiss Francs signed with Materials Ministry of Kazak State of USSR. Meanwhile, there were other 3 agreements signed with 3 trading companies of USSR on jointly building factory, processing of investor's raw materials and barter trade.

Delegations of Native Produce & Animal By-Products

2 contracts and 2 agreements have been signed. Among the contracts, there was one contract signed with Bulgaria Sundry Goods Company on exporting 70 tons of tea; another contract signed with a company of Czech for the raw materials of fur coat leather. Meanwhile, there were 2 barter trade agreements signed with the International Trading Company of Bulgaria, Bulgaria Sundry Goods Company separately.

Delegation of Tobacco

1 barter trade agreement with the total import and export value of 440,000 Swiss Francs was signed with Motor Corporation of Bulgaria, Chinese export commodities are cigarette and tobacco.
