Brief Introduction of the 19th China Harbin Fair

The 19th International China Harbin Fair for Trade and Economic Cooperation lowered its curtain in Harbin on June 19, 2008 with the number of contracts signed scoring a historic high.

Foreign contracts worth 10.59 billion U.S. dollars and domestic contracts involving 100.62 billion yuan (14.4 billion U.S .dollars) were signed at the 19th Harbin Fair, a growth of 3.5 and 10.4 percent respectively compared with last year's fair.

The fair, which ran from June 15 to 19, 2008, had attracted 11,916 foreign businessmen from 60 countries and regions, including Russia, the United States, Germany, Finland and Japan. In addition, 85 of the world's top 500 enterprises and 43 overseas delegations for trade and economics attended the event, according to the organizers.

Large pavilions included those from Russia, South Korea and Hong Kong as well as industries including furniture, hi-tech, investment and financial products.

The Russian Business Day hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of China together with the Russia's Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Heilongjiang provincial government was one of the biggest events at the fair. Conferences, seminars and promotional events by Russian states were part of the effort.

Other conferences included a seminar on investment and financing and a symposium on revitalization of aging industrial centers in northeast China. Promotional events were also held by South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and other countries and regions.

The Harbin fair is one of the largest in China. Since its inception in 1990 it has attracted more than 1.4 million participants from over 80 countries and regions and closed deals totaling more than $100 billion.
